Brief review for the previous version
If your internet activities are limited to Facebook and email, you probably won’t have a clue what Hyperterminal is. But if you’re an advanced user who’s been using the internet since its early days, the name will probably ring many bells - and if it doesn’t, it most probably should. Designed by network communications firm Hilgraeve, Hyperterminal is a terminal emulation program which basically lets you connect to other computers via a number of different types of connections.
Hyperterminal is one of the base programs used in most networking systems like intranets and remote networks, and it’s remained the standard in industry application for very good reason. The program supports all the main types of connection like TCP/IP, dial-up modems and COM Ports, giving system administrators the power to communicate with a number of disparate systems through the one simple interface. The program also comes packed with all the features an admin or network tech could want or need, including macros, network print setup, and single-key password and User ID control. Hyperterminal’s interface is also extremely easy to use, and can automate important tasks like shutting down after you log out or printing crash reports immediately.
Hyperterminal’s stability and longstanding track record in networking industry go hand in hand, and for a program a little over 3mb in size it’s still one of the most powerful and useful utilities for any system administrator. At around $60 with a 30-day free trial, it isn’t incredibly cheap - but you pay for what you get, and Hyperterminal is definitely a worthy investment.
